Handmade VS Handcrafted: What is the difference?

Handmade VS Handcrafted: What is the difference?

You’ve probably seen both terms used a lot- handmade and handcrafted- and at first glance, they seem to mean the same thing. But there’s actually a subtle difference.

Handmade pieces are created entirely by hand, from beginning to end, at the jeweler’s bench. It’s a very traditional approach, where every single step is done manually.

Handcrafted, on the other hand, still centers around the hand- but allows for a more flexible process. It combines artisanal techniques with carefully chosen methods and collaborations, giving more room for precision while keeping the soul of the piece intact.

This is the approach we work with.

Every design starts in-house, where we shape and refine each piece through techniques like wax carving, casting, soldering, polishing, sandblasting, gold plating, and enameling. For certain specialized steps- like stone setting and engraving- we collaborate with skilled craftsmen in Antwerp, a city long known as one of the world’s centers of fine jewelry.

What we love about handcrafted jewelry is that it leaves space for individuality. No two pieces are ever completely identical- and that’s exactly the point. Those small variations are what make each piece feel personal, almost like it was made just for you.

Depending on the design, creating a piece can take a few weeks. It’s a slower process, but one that allows us to focus on detail, quality, and intention.

For us, handcrafted is about balance- honoring traditional craftsmanship while embracing a way of working that feels relevant today.
