If you’ve been exploring jewelry, you’ve likely come across terms like gold-plated, gold vermeil, and solid gold. While similar at first glance, they differ in both composition and quality.
Gold-plated pieces have a thin layer of gold over base metals like brass or copper. Gold vermeil uses sterling silver as a base, finished with a thicker layer of gold- at least 2.5 microns. Solid gold is, of course, gold throughout.
We choose gold vermeil as our default- and it’s a considered decision.

Gold is naturally heavier than silver, and given the scale and expressiveness of many of our designs, solid gold would make them significantly heavier to wear. Gold vermeil allows us to maintain that same visual presence, while keeping each piece more comfortable.
It also brings consistency. Gold prices fluctuate, while gold vermeil allows us to offer a more stable and predictable pricing structure.
Each piece is finished with 3 to 5 microns of gold over sterling silver, making it both durable and hypoallergenic, without the risk of discoloration often associated with other base metals. With proper care, it wears beautifully over time.
That said, all of our pieces can be made in solid gold upon request- available in 14 or 18 karat, in yellow, white, or rosé gold.
For us, gold vermeil isn’t a compromise, but a conscious choice- balancing comfort, quality, and longevity, while leaving room for solid gold when desired.
